Welcome to the official site of Denis Godefroy (1949-1997), aiming at presenting the artiste, his art and news about exhibitions. Denis Godefroy was born in August 1949, the eldest of five children, in Evreux (Normandy). As a child, he is introduced to pictural art by his father, letter painters and artist. As early as 17, Denis exhibits his first works (watercolors, oils, washes and charcoals) in Evreux. In 1974, his works are presented to the International Contemporary Art Fair in Paris. First a figurative painter, inspired by Jackson Pollock, he turned to abstraction in the 1980s, using of black, white, gold and colours - especially blue and red. With the same energy, he gives live performances on huge canvases, always accompanied by music, another passion. He is influenced by Nicolas de Stael, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Yves Klein... Denis Godefroy is also a draughtsman: of contrasting nudes but also of airy lines landscapes. This website cannot be perfectly complete but it will guide you and allow you to discover the diversity of the artist's work.
